Preston’s World

A glimpse into my life

My Sweet Boy September 22, 2011

We were watching “Mars Needs Mom’s” and the little boy in it tells his mother that he would be better off without her and the mom has a a sad hurt face on her. Isabelle was upset by it and told me that she loved me. Then Preston as sweet and sincere as can be says, ” I love you super tight, Mom!” It was so cute. I just love it!

Preston, the boy of 1,000 faces, but rarely a good smile. This boy is trying my patience when it come to picture taking. He just is killing me. He is funny though. First he can’t seem to put his clothes on. Not that he isn’t able to do it, but he just has a hard time getting from the bathroom to his bedroom and not getting distracted before he gets dressed. It doesn’t seem to bother him…at all. He says the funiest things. I should blog them more often. The best in recent memory is this: He comes out of the bathroom, he’s been in there for a while, stands in the doorway with his feet spred apart and his hands, palms open above his head and says very loudly, ” Don’t worry, guys. I’m a killer!” Then runs off back into the bathroom. He was in there doing his very best to kill a fly that got in the house. It was just how he said it that was so funny. Just to reassure us that he was a killer and it was going to be alright.

He also had his first wasp sting this month. It was on his foot. He was playing where the bushes meet the grass and the water had been on since they were out playing and he must have almost steped on it. Poor guy. He starts yelling, “A bug bit me! A bug bit me!” as he ran to me. It got swollen, but I gave him some tylenol and put some benadryl on it and it was fine.

This poor little guy. He was soooo excited about going on the cruise. He even got himself all potty trained so he could go and play in the kids area. He went the first night and by the next morning he had a cough. Then he got a fever. He kept the fever for 5 days of our 7 day cruise and then by the 5th day he was complaining that his ear hurt and he had woken up with with some sort of eye infection. By the evening of day 6 Preston and I couldn’t wait for day 7 to get off that boat! We drove straight from the peer to the doctor’s office. It turned out he got a cold with a cough (a horrible cough) and both of his ears were infected as well as both of his eyes had infections as well. That poor buddy. He didn’t njoy much of the time there. He told us he couldn’t walk most of the time and he took lots of naps and didn’t get to do any of the fun kids things. He was probally the only one of us who actually lost weight on the cruise! So he’s ready for the next vacation so he can have some fun.

This money is earmarked… May 9, 2011

Preston just came up to me and held out his hand to me. I held out my hand and he placed in my hand one penny. Then he looked at me and with all seriousness and with great intensity he said, ” Mama, this is for the next cruise.” Is that not the cutest, sweetest thing you’ve ever heard? So he earmarked that penny for out next cruise. Apparently he is ready to go on another one soon! I love that boy.

I’m just taking a minute to brag on this little man. Yesterday while we were getting ready to go take Isabelle to school, Preston was supposed to be getting his shoes on. I kept asking him if they were on and he kept telling me that they were not. As I finished getting the girls ready I went to to get his shoes on for him with a whole speech ready to tell him that being a big boy means you put your shoes on yourself, but as I opened his bedroom door he says, “Look, Mommy. I’m cleaning my room all by myself!” Well so he had! I put his shoes on him and we left. On the way back to the car and during our weekly trip to get produce, he just kept asking if we could go home so he could finish cleaning. When we went home he cleaned the rest up all by himself and it looked perfect! He was so proud of himself and I am so proud of him. Oh, and there’s more. When we got home from picking up Isabelle from school, he got his dirty laundry and stuck it in the washer without me asking, then he asked me if I could vacuum his room for him. When I put him to bed I asked him why he wanted to clean his room even when I didn’t ask him. “I just didn’t want it to be messy, Mom,” he answered. Amazing! Remember, this is from the boy who won’t even put on his own seat belt in the car or walk by himself to pick up his sister half the time!

Preston is potty trained. I made it. He made it. He has been wearing uderware for about 3 weeks now. He does have accidents, but really only when he is playing and doesn’t want to stop. I think that’s a huge problem for boys, as I’ve talked to lots of mommy’s with the same issue. He got in his head that if he wasn’t potty trained that he would not get to go on our upcomming cruise. Now that he “goes poop in the potty” and is not “disgusting like Lily and baby Maddie” “(he) can go on the cruise and so can Noah and Nafin (Nathan), but not Lily or baby Maddie, ’cause they poop in thier pants.” Oh and don’t worry, he’s volentered Matthew to stay home with Lily so she won’t be all alone. He’s got everything covered.
He has made friends with one of the syblings of one of the little girl’s in Isabelle’s class. He likes to play with her which makes having to take and pick up Isabelle so much more pleasant as before every day he would tell me that he didn’t want to go and get Isabelle and that we should have Papa pick her up or Dad. He was also super sweet yesterday I was told, while at Bible study. During snack time one of the little girls in his class said that her grandpa had died and she was sad. So Preston got up, walked over to her, put his arm around her shoulder and he prayed for her. The teachers were beside themselves with how sweet he was. I already know that he is sweet!

Preston is finally almost potty trained…I say that cautiously as He’s been doing okay this last week. He has moved past the incentives and is just doing it to be a big boy which is HUGE! He loves dinos still, Lily and pancakes. He hates naps and most recently he hates to eat dinner. He found some shoes that look just like Daddy’s shoes and he had to have them. He will strike up a conversation with virtually anyone and continue to talk until they leave. Example:
Yesterday I had Lily and Preston outside Isabelle’s school and Lily was in a little onsie
that had a pink tool skirt attached.
One of the bus drivers said, “Oh my gosh. She looks so cute!”
Preston says, “Yes she does look cute. She is cute. She is a cute baby. Her name is Lily. That’s my sister. My other sister is Isabelle. She is not come out yet.”
I think he said that all without taking a breath.

That baby is digustin! February 21, 2011

We went to see our friend’s new baby! Congratulations to Jeremy and Melissa on new baby Madylyn who is beautiful. I forgot my camera, or I’d have a picture here, but I have to post the conversation I over heard.
Preston (to the new baby’s mama): “That baby is digustin!”( disgusting)
Melissa:”What? What did you say?”(Very sweetly as I’m sure she thought she heard wrong.)
Preston: “That baby’s digustin cause she poops in her pants. I don’t poop in my pants like that baby. She’s
digustin.” says the boy who absolutely does still poop in his pants!!!!
Smooth Preston. Well at least he is starting to think pooping in your pants is digustin!

Aye Chihuahua! February 18, 2011

Preston: “Oh, look, Mom! That’s a cute chihuahua! Isn’t it cute, Mom?”
Me: “Where’s a chihuahua?”
Preston: “Right there with that lady.”
Me: “Preston that’s not a chihuahua. That’s a German Shepherd!”
Preston:”Oh. Don’t put Lily down. It probably eats babies.”
